"I really love doing dramas, I thought while crying."

Acting in many dramas, Yamada has steadily and modestly built up a career as an actor. Now he’s saying: “I love acting from the bottom of my heart”, while his eyes are gazing towards the future.

I can still clearly remember the day when I first acted in front of a camera, from the shooting location to the lines. In the special drama “Tantei Gakuen Q”, that aired in 2006, I said this to Kamiki (Ryunosuke)-kun, who played Kyuu: “You talk too much, like an idiot. We’re rivals”. A scene in the mountains. In that moment, I took the first step forward as an actor.

When shooting “Tantei Gakuen Q”, I was nervous all the time, but had a lot of valuable experiences. At first, there were lines that we would record as a narration with voice only, and when shooting those scenes while moving fast, I failed over 10 times, because I couldn’t remember the lines. I felt so bad about it, that after that I memorized everything in the script, even if it would say narration. Having said that, I’m not very smart, so it’s not easy learning the lines. That’s why always when I get a script, at first I mark the places with a lot of long lines. About 1 week before shooting a scene, I start systemically memorizing it 2-4 pages at a time. When I was at school, during summer vacation I even ended up leaving my homework to the last minute (laugh). But when it comes to homework, I’m the only one who would get scolded if I haven’t done them, but if I couldn’t remember my lines on a drama shooting, that would cause trouble to my co-workers and staff. I’m also responsible for the expectations of the viewers, who are looking forward to the airing. When I think that, even if I had to cut down time to sleep, I just have to do it.

What can I be really proud about? That is all the wonderful encounters I’ve been blessed with on all of the drama shooting sites this far. The first time I acted the lead role alone was in “Hidarime Tantei EYE”, and the staff doted on me like a son, and Yokoyama (Yuu)-kun and Ishihara (Satomi)-san also treated me well. When finishing shooting, with the flowers I got a photo album as a present. When I opened it, there were pictures of all of the cast and staff, that Ishihara-san had taken with an instant camera, and messages written to me from all of them. Once again I realized how I’m supported by so many people, and without thinking I started crying out loud. Even more because of that kind of warm encounters, I love doing dramas. I wonder what kind of wonderful encounters are still waiting for me.

I don’t have any special goals as an actor. What I mean is that I think I’m still not on the level to think of such things. Now I’m at a place where it’s important to improve my acting skills, and to be accepted as an actor among people. If I have a chance, I’d like to challenge any kind of role with all my might. To build up the character I could go even go bald, or shave my eyebrows. I’d be happy if the fans can accept that as well. That’s how motivated I’m towards acting. I’m confident that that is something I won’t lose to anyone in.

Also, one thing I want to one day try, is act in a movie. Nowadays many kouhais from the agency are doing movies, and seeing it, honestly I’m a little envious. At the shooting, the director is probably holding a megaphone? Is the directing more strict? Are the cameras bigger than when shooting for a drama? Only imagining this view that I haven’t seen before, I can’t stop my excitement.
